20 Amazing Ways to Improve Your Life in 2023
Hi friends! Can you believe we’re halfway through 2023 already? Time is absolutely insane. I don’t know what encouraged you to check out this article, but I’m glad you’re here. Whether you’re revisiting some New Year resolutions, or you woke up this morning with that itch to revamp your life; I’m here for you! Now is the time to improve your life, and these 20 tips are going to set you off on the right foot.
Don’t feel pressured to try everything on the list all at once. Use it as a guide – do what sounds fun, exciting, scary, and modify the rest to your liking. This is your life so you get to decide. I’m just here to offer recommendations, funny anecdotes, and a cautionary tale or two.
Set achievable goals and work towards them
Achievable just means starting small. Everyone should dream big, but you must have a plan to follow and execute. For example, if you want to lose 50 lbs your goal cant just be “lose 50 lbs” you need to break it down.
- exercise 3 times a week
- cut down on fast food
- drink less soda and more water
Breaking it down makes even the biggest tasks look manageable.
You gotta start somewhere, right?
Practice gratitude and focus on the positive aspects of life
A huge part in improving your life is improving your mindset. You don’t have to believe in law of attraction to understand positive thinking creates a more positive life. I used to be on the other side and I didn’t have many good things to say about my life because my mindset was trash, not because I had a horrible life. Hopefully that makes sense. Change your outlook on life, and you will notice a drastic change.
Exercise regularly and make conscious meal decisions
Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous, just get your body moving. When it comes to food you want to make conscious meal decisions. That does not mean go on a strict diet that is impossible to maintain. Establishing a healthy relationship with food is important. Instead, listen to your body and figure out what it needs to feel good. I liked having fast food here and there, but it disagreed with my stomach so I had to cut it out entirely. You can still enjoy pizza, and ice cream – it’s all about moderation.
Get enough sleep and establish a consistent sleep schedule
As a mom I understand that this isn’t the easiest to execute (currently going through another sleep regression.) If you’re not in the position where this is realistic (newborn stage) focus on the quality of sleep you’re getting. When my son was a newborn my husband would take him every morning for 3-4 hours so I could get some much needed uninterrupted sleep.
If creating a consistent sleep schedule isnt an issue I highly suggest putting together a bedtime routine. The ambiance you set for a good nights rest is more important than people think.
Take a bath, light a candle in your room, and play calming music to help yourself wind down.
Cultivate a strong support system of family and friends
Having a village is so important. Not just for children, but adults too. To have loved ones you can depend on, spend time with, and enjoy is unmatched (and, hard to find.)
So, hold on tight to your tribe.

Learn new skills or take up a new hobby
Life is about experiences! It’s never too late to pick up something new.
(check back in with me to see if I ever learn how to crochet like I’ve been wanting to for years.)
Reduce stress through meditation, yoga, or other relaxation techniques
There are tons of videos online that walk you through exercises and techniques to relieve stress and tension.
Practice mindfulness and live in the present moment
A huge reason why I’m able to live a joyous life filled with gratitude is because I started being mindful. Here are some ways for beginners to get into mindfulness practices.
Volunteer and help others in need
There are so many opportunities to help and give back in your community
I have used volunteermatch.org in the past to gain experience in my field, and it was really eye-opening how much is out there to contribute to.
Travel and experience new cultures
Traveling is definitely a luxury, and if you can – you should! A beautiful part of life is all the experiences you can have, so don’t limit yourself. Eat food you’ve never had before, do something you’ve never done, and learn something new.
Limit time spent on social media and technology
Social media has its pros for sure, but it can be mentally draining. I know I’m not the only person that has mindlessly scrolled for hours. Social media in small doses is great, just make sure you’re listening to your body and take a break when you need it.
Practice forgiveness and let go of grudges
I know it’s cliché, and I don’t like hearing it either sometimes. But, forgiveness is for YOU, not the other person. Let go of those negative feelings, they don’t serve you.
Surround yourself with positive people and avoid negative influences
We are who we surround ourselves with. Build a community that generates positive energy, and watch how much more enjoyable life becomes.
Read books and expand your knowledge
You don’t need to be in school to read and learn. There’s so much information at our disposal, take advantage of it. I believe there is a genre for everyone.

Keep a journal to reflect on thoughts and emotions
Journaling can be so impactful if you write with intention.
Here’s how I started my journaling journey, and why it changed my life.
Set boundaries and prioritize self-care
Setting boundaries is as a form of self-care. You have to make yourself a priority, and that includes doing what you must to protect your peace and maintain your happiness. It’s what the kids are calling a “soft girl life” and I’m here for it. Embrace the self-care girly inside you, and do nice things for yourself.
That could be a bubble bath, going to the salon, or an iced coffee from Starbucks.
Seek professional help if struggling with mental health issues
There is no shame in receiving professional help if you need it. To break the stigma surrounding mental health we must raise awareness. Doing what you have to do to better yourself is a beautiful thing.
Practice good communication skills in relationships
Being able to communicate with others makes it easier to establish and maintain healthy, long-lasting relationships. Can you voice your opinion without putting someone else’s down? Are you able to disagree without being disrespectful? These are qualities that arent awarded to you by getting older, but things you have to work on to nurture the relationships that are important to you.
Take time to appreciate nature and the outdoors
Our planet is a beautiful place, and we shouldn’t forget that. Being outside in the fresh air, and tuning into the world around you is a grounding experience.
Practice self-love and acceptance

The person with you at the beginning and end of each day you’ve ever lived, is yourself. Do yourself a favor and become your own best friend. Treat yourself well, talk to yourself with kindness, and love the person you see in the mirror no matter what. It’s not easy, but it’s one of the most freeing things a person can do.
You can start today
Don’t be afraid to change what isn’t working anymore, or maybe hasnt worked at all. Life doesn’t have to be boring, predictable, bleak – it can be whatever you want it to be.
Be the person that jogs at 5 am
Go on that trip you’ve been planning for years
Stop and smell the roses (literally)
Let’s not buy into the idea that we can’t improve or change our life.
It’s absolutely possible, you just gotta get up and do it.
And if you’re afraid, do it anyway.
